What to Wear & Dress Professionally

What to Wear: Cognac Suit

January 27, 2021
Cognac suit-1

After a brief hiatus, we’re back with a fresh What to Wear Wednesday. Today is a real treat because I think this is my favorite suit to date. Shoooooot, it might be my favorite outfit to date, the cognac suit. I was inspired after seeing the blazer on Ashley Parke of Parke Avenue on YouTube. When I found out it was a suit I was on it!

Cognac color aside, I like the blazer because it has an inside pocket. It also has nice quality buttons and a good weight to it. The pants need tailoring. They pucker a bit in the front, which I’m conveniently hiding with my hands in my pockets. Overall the color is worth the small issues that can definitely be fixed anyway.

The shirt I have on is from Uniqlo and isn’t really anything special, but works as a nice white button down for any suit.

These shoes were a real shocker in how well they matched the suit. I bought them because I’m forever looking to buy brown-girl friendly nude shoes. Nine West released the nude series for Tatiana and a few other shoes earlier this year and I was on it. These compliment my skin tone but still aren’t quite nude on me like my Calvin Klein Gayles that I’ll feature in a later post. Would you wear this cognac suit and do a similar look?

If you want to actually see the suit in action, here’s my latest YouTube video where I have it on:

Just wondering. Mine was dealing with perfectionism and imposter syndrome. What is or was yours?

I combat it by reminding myself of my accomplishments, that I’m knowledgeable in my field, and that in my 9-5 I manage the finances of an organization who’s budget runs between $8M-$11M a year. 🤷🏽‍♀️ It can be hard to get out of your own head, but I find fighting doubts with facts helps if I beat the out of control spiral to the punch.

We’re still at the top of a new year. Although it’s about to get crazy for me with @autryllc I plan on doing more work with high schoolers and pre-professional programs focused on Black students 💜 ⁣
