What to Wear & Dress Professionally Work

Black on Black Outfit of the Week

January 6, 2021
black on black outfit

Happy new year! I’m back again this week with another “What to Wear Wednesday.” New year, same skirt. I’m giving you capsule wardrobe vibes here with an all-black outfit using the skirt from the last workwear post.

This week I’ve paired the same Abercrombie black knit skirt with a DKNY black bodysuit. Unfortunately, I can’t find this bodysuit at Nordstrom anymore, but any black bodysuit should fit the look. You may even like it better if the bodysuit doesn’t have buttons. Alternatively, if you like the button-down look but aren’t crazy about bodysuits, you can always substitute a black button-down. This is one of my favorite button-downs.

I think a close second to black and white clothing combos is black on black because it’s easy to throw on and go. If you’re like me and had long nights before work the next morning having a go-to outfit makes life easier, and all black is a classic look. Although you only see them in one shot, I also have on black pumps. Black shoes, heels or flats, are a staple in a young, corporate professional’s wardrobe. Do you have a classic, go-to look? Let me know in the comments!

This is one of my favorite bodysuits. It looks like a fitted button up on the body but keeps my lower back covered in case of any lower back showing. My big hipped/big butted ladies know what I’m talking about. Looking for my thoughts on the skirt? Check out my last What to Wear Wednesday here.

Ignore my horse-like trot pose LOL had to show the shoes

Moral of the story: when in doubt, black is a solid colorway choice. It also hides stains from morning tea you spilled during your commute, wink wink.

Just wondering. Mine was dealing with perfectionism and imposter syndrome. What is or was yours?

I combat it by reminding myself of my accomplishments, that I’m knowledgeable in my field, and that in my 9-5 I manage the finances of an organization who’s budget runs between $8M-$11M a year. 🤷🏽‍♀️ It can be hard to get out of your own head, but I find fighting doubts with facts helps if I beat the out of control spiral to the punch.

We’re still at the top of a new year. Although it’s about to get crazy for me with @autryllc I plan on doing more work with high schoolers and pre-professional programs focused on Black students 💜 ⁣
