Podcast Alert – What to Put in Your Rotation Next

Hey! So the last alert was to put you on to Brown Ambition, which is always great. You should still listen to it if you haven’t yet. I mean, they’re really getting big, so you want to be there when they blow all the way up so that you can say you were a way back when listener (and that you heard about them here ;). This post is about another podcast you should have in your podcast rotation: I Choose the Ladder. It’s directed toward Black women interested in climbing the corporate ladder and successfully navigating the twists and turns that come with working in Corporate America.

I wouldn’t be your friend if I didn’t forewarn you that it’s not as fun as Brown Ambition, however, I promise you will learn so much from the host, Watchen Nyanue. Per her About section, she’s a strategic marketing and career development expert from Liberia currently located in Chicago, IL, and working as the Senior Vice President of Marketing Partnerships for the WNBA Chicago Sky. Often, she’ll have guests, other Black female executives in her network, and they’ll tell their stories and share advice they’ve learned along the way, which I tend to enjoy.

It’s great to see Black women in these powerful positions in the corporate world be so candid and willing to share their experiences. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in the lack of resources available to us that we miss out on great free ones right in front of us. Should you listen, the last episode I heard that genuinely resonated with me was, “Let’s Find You a Mentor.” In it, Watchen describes how fortunate she was to have great mentors very early on in her career, the importance of mentorship, and what you need to bring to the table for your mentors. (Hint: mentorship is a two-way street.)

P.S. Let’s not discuss how behind I am. We’re still on lockdown. I. Got. Time.
