Experience the Debate with Me

September 29, 2016

Hello there!

As many of you may know this past Monday, September 26, 2016, the presidential debates kicked off at Hofstra University. I was fortunate enough to receive a ticket from my aunt on behalf of the Commission of Presidential Debates and see the candidates in action in person. Full disclosure: I am not fully pro- either candidate, although I am certainly not a Trump supporter. Personally, with elections, I try to stay more objective than emotional so that I can feel comfortable knowing the best candidate for the job has my vote. While I do believe that Hillary Clinton is more than capable and qualified for the position, I am still not sold on all of her points and plans for America’s future. To be fair, I still have quite a bit of research to do on both candidates plans on various topics since I feel that the debate did not do them any justice with regard to the issues. My goal for this weekend is to visit Clinton and Trump’s websites so that I can be better versed on where they each stand.

The event was pretty well-organized and refreshments were provided prior to the debate at the Cradle of Aviation Museum. Attendees were instructed to go to the Cradle of Aviation where a shuttle escorted them to the debate hall (David S. Mack Sports Center). From there, guests were escorted to their seats and had the opportunity to walk around, converse, and take pictures until the televised program began. All guests received a ticket and a program, outlining the team on the Commission for Presidential Debates and planning committee for the debate at Hofstra University. The floor was carpeted in a beautiful patriotic red and the stage was set to the backdrop of the Constitution in blue and white. There was one main rule the audience had to follow, refraining from any applause or expressions of discontent during the televised program. I emphasize that point because there were a number of people who seemed to forget the ONE rule, yet I digress. Following the debate, all of the guests received C-SPAN tote bags and were thanked for attending.

Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed by the debate and the lack of emphasis on the issues facing the country. Even though I am certainly not a fan of Trump, I do not think some the outlandish, scandalous claims and statements he has made in the past served any purpose in the evening’s debate. I would have liked to have given him the benefit of the doubt by taking the time to listen to some of his ideas, however, he clearly came with no intention to discuss the issues. He could have taken the time to deflect those irrelevant questions and redirected to his plans for the country, but he did not.

Clinton, however, did a phenomenal job and remained quite poised despite the constant interruptions by Trump and quite a few rebel cheerers in the audience. Although I did not agree with all of her points, she came across as well-prepared and articulate concerning the issues at hand in the country and was fairly explicit in describing some of her plan to stimulate the economy. Please be on the lookout for future posts regarding the upcoming election and how some of the candidate’s points can affect your future in business as well as what to wear to a political event!

What are some of your thoughts on the election? How do you feel about the candidates? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and let’s start a dialogue. Be blessed.
